Right before the official opening of the Directors' Fortnight short-film initiative on 15 May at 4:45 pm at the Théâtre Croisette, an omnibus of five films made in collaboration between Dominique Welinski and the Sarajevo Film Festival will be screened. The project paired five directors from the SEE region with five international filmmakers to produce five shorts among which The Sign by Macedonian director Eleonora Veninova and Yona Rozenkier (Israel/Switzerland).
The Cannes Directors' Fortnight initiative The Factory, aimed at fostering the emergence of new talents on the international scene, allowing young filmmaking couples, both locals and internationals, to meet and create together, is this year dedicated to Southeast Europe. The other titles include The Right One by Urška Djukić (Slovenia) and Gabriel Tzafka (Greece/Denmark), In Your Hands by Maša Šarović (Serbia) and Sharon Engelhart (Israel), Spit by Neven Samardžić (Bosnia and Herzegovina) and Carolina Markowitz (Brazil) and The Package by Dušan Kasalica (Montenegro) and Teodora Ana Mihai (Romania/Belgium). SEE Factory was made with the support of the Film Center Serbia, the Film Centre of Montenegro, the Ministry of Culture and Sport, Canton of Sarajevo, the North Macedonian Film Agency and the Slovenian Film Centre, and will premiere on 15 May at 4.45 pm, right before the official opening of the Directors' Fortnight.
The Agency director Gorjan Tozija will attend the General Assembly of EFADS (European Film Agency Directors), the Association of directors of European Film Agencies. The Film Agency has submitted a membership application to this film association and is pending to receive it.
MARKET SCREENING:
This year in Cannes, as part of the Marché du Film market, on 17 May starting at 6:00 pm in the GRAY 3 hall, the Macedonian/Kosovo/Albanian coproduction Unforgettable Spring in a Forgotten Village, directed by Kushtrim Bektesi will be screened. The film is produced by Manufactory (North Macedonia), Media & Film (Kosovo) Ska-ndal (Albania) and is financially supported by the Film Agency.
ACCOMPANYING EVENTS:
The third workshop of the project based training program designed specifically for scriptwriters from Eastern and Central Europe, ScripTeast, will be held within the festival. Part of this workshop will be the Macedonian director Vardan Tozija was selected to participate with the script for the feature film with working title M. The film M is financially supported by the Film Agency and is in the pre-production phase.
Representatives from the Film Agency will attend several important meetings, including the European Producers Club General Assembly as well as the 64th General Assembly of the European Film Promotion and all accompanying activities organised by European Film Promotion (EFP) promoting and marketing European cinema worldwide.
The head of MEDIA Desk of North Macedonia, Bistra Georgieva, will also attend Cannes. She will participate in the European Film Forum (EFF) - Empowering creativity of European talents, as well as the annual meetings of the representatives of the Creative Europe MEDIA program for future strategies and possible collaborations between the desks.
