The film premiered in Poland on 5 January 2012 distributed by Kino Świat (www.kinoswiat.pl). The production is the most popular Polish title of the year, with 70,000 viewers during the opening weekend and 1,157,634 tickets sold to date. In 2011, the film was picked up for US and Canadian distribution by Sony Pictures Classics (www.sonyclassics.com).
Along with the Oscar nomination for the Best Foreign Film, In Darkness received several Polish Film Awards including: The Eagles (www.pnf.pl) for the Best Actor for Robert Więckiewicz, Best Supporting Actress for Kinga Preis and Best Cinematography, and the Cinematographer Award for Joanna Dylewska during Plus Camerimage 2011 (www.pluscamerimage.pl).
