Punk in Africa is being screened as part of the World Today DOX section of the Warsaw Film Fest. The music documentary about the development of the punk music movement in South Africa generated a lot of international interest during its tour of several significant film festivals, including Rotterdam and New York.
"The film has been sold to TV in Austria, Switzerland, Germany, Sweden, Czech Republic and Sub-Sahara Africa," Jefe Brown from the production company U.F.O. Pictures told FNE. "The German theatrical release is being sorted now, as well as the VOD rights for USA/North America," he added.
The documentary, directed by Keith Jones and Deon Maas, is a full length compilation of archival and new footage covering the growth of the punk scene in South Africa from the 1970s to the present day. The film was shot between 2009 and 2010 in Durban, Johannesburg and Cape Town.
