The film’s distributor Kino Świat told FNE that the film had 100,946 viewers in its opening weekend, putting it in second place after Traffic Police with 176,732 admissions. The Closed Circuit beat out recent Hollywood film openings in Poland including Django, Die Hard 5 and Oz: The Great and Powerful.
The film is produced by Filmicon Dom Filmowy, a company created by the film’s screenwriter Mirosław Pepka and Olga Bieniek.
A script for The Closed Circuit (Układ zamknięty) is based on the true story of three Polish businessmen unfairly accused and incarcerated for fraud as a result of a conspiracy created against them by high profile government officials. They were kept in jail for seven years, during which time the people responsible managed to take over their prosperous factory. The film is directed by accomplished Polish filmmaker Ryszard Bugajski with a script by Mirosław Pepka and Michał Pruski, writers of the highly praised Polish drama Black Thursday. The cast includes legendary Polish actor Janusz Gajos, along with Kazimierz Kaczor, Przemysław Sadowski and Małgorzata Kumorek.
"I think that the film will be immensely popular because it is a story that can happen to anyone who is active in this country. I hope that this production will spark something in the public dialog, because this situation should never happen again. This is the time to change," Gajos told FNE at the film’s premiere in Warsaw.
