The film opened in Poland on 20 September 2013, distributed by Kino Świat with 45,717 viewers during the first weekend, making it the new leader at the Polish box office, outperforming big foreign productions such as Diana (42,619) and About Time (33,688).
The film, a drama about a homosexual priest facing social ostracism, impossible passion and solitude premiered internationally in the Main Competition of the 63rd IFF in Berlin where it received the Teddy Award. The film won the Main Prize at the IFF Mix Milano 2013 as well as Best Film at the Neisse Film Festival Zittau 2013, where Andrzej Chyra was awarded Best Actor. Most recently it won high praise in Poland during the 36 Gdynia Film Festival, where it received the Silver Lion Prize and the Best Directing and Best Actor Awards.
The film was produced by MD4 in co-production with Zentropa International Poland, Canal+ and Shot Szumowski. International sales are managed by Memento Films International.
WARSAW: In the Name of, a controversial drama directed by Małgorzata Szumowska, has reached 120,000 admissions in the first 10 days of its domestic release.
