Jury's comment: Mateusz has an intense screen presence. In contemporary Polish drama IN THE NAME OF, he ingeniously conveys a character that journeys from enigmatic misfit to wildly unpredictable ticking bomb, enlivening his performance with a goofy energy and finally a beguiling tenderness. At all times, we were carried along with conviction.
After studying drama in Krakow, Mateusz Kosciukewicz made his film debut in Peter Greenaway's NIGHTWATCHING. With his performance in Jacek Borcuch's ALL THAT I LOVE, Mateusz received the Polish Film Award as "Discovery of the Year". For his role in MOTHER TERESA OF CATS, he won Poland's top award for upcoming talent, the Zbyszek Cybulski Award. His recent films include IN THE NAME OF and WALESA (by Andrzej Wajda), and upcoming productions ELIXER and 11 MINUTES.
