TVP ABC Kids Channel Debuts Strong

By

WARSAW: TVP ABC, a children's channel from Polish public broadcaster TVP has become the leading children station in its first month, outperforming competing paid channels.

TVP ABC launched on 15 February 2014 and is currently the only free channel aimed at the younger audience available in Poland. TVP ABC now holds 0.92% of the total market in the 4+ category and the top position among the children oriented stations in Poland. The second and third place are held by paid channels MiniMini (0.57%) and Nick Jr (0.54%).

"We are hoping to hold at least 1% of the market by the end of this year. It is an optimistic but also a realistic vision," said the President of TVP Juliusz Braun.

The channel's line-up includes both Polish and international animated series as well as educational shows. In the future the station plans to produce its own content, but the budget for original projects surpasses the current ability of TVP.

"TVP ABC is created for children under 12 but we will concentrate on viewers that are 6-7 years old. Our program will be safe, voided of brutal content and focused on both cultural and social education," Braun said.
