The Day of Chocolate, based on a novel by Anna Onichimowska, is a story about two children who are facing troubles far too serious for their age. In order to escape them they turn to magic and attempt time travel. The film is planned as a poetic family feature made in the style of magic realism.
The script for the film, co-written by Bławut and Onichimowska won the Krzysztof Kieslowski ScripTeast Award 2010 for the Best Central European Script, awarded annually at Cannes Film Festival. The first part of shooting for the picture launched on 14 October 2015 and lasted 26 days. An additional 9 days of shooting are planned for January 2016.
The leading roles of the young protagonists are played by Leo Stubbs and Julia Odzimek. They will be supported by a cast of popular Polish actors including Tomasz Kot, Katarzyna Kwiatkowska and Magdalena Zawadzka. The DoP is Radosław Ładczuk.
The film is produced by Studio Rabarbar in co-production with Koen Plate, Anna Gawlita, Silesia Film, DI Factory. The budget is 4.7 m PLN (1.1 m EUR) with 2,350,000 PLN (558,000 EUR) of financing from the Polish Film Institute.
The film will be distributed by Next Film in late of 2016 or early of 2017.
