In the Last Days of the City, a coproduction between Egypt, Germany, UK and United Arab Emirates, follows an episode in the life of a filmmaker in Cairo, who deals with a loss in his life and struggles to make a movie that captures the soul of the city.
The New Horizons competition jury consisting of Mania Akbari, Gust van den Berghe, Adrian Sitaru, Magnus von Horn and Sandrine Marques awarded director Tamer El Said with a Grand Prix of 20,000 EUR and a guaranteed distribution in Poland. "I am very moved by this award, it is amazing that my film travels through so many countries to so many viewers. It is a great honor," Tamer El Said told FNE.
FIPRESCI Jury including Margarite Chapatte, Dejan Petrovic and Anna Osmólska-Mętrak gave its award to Dark Beast by Felipe Guerrero. The film follows three women on the run from situations of extreme violence, and it is a coproduction between Colombia, Argentina, Netherlands, Germany and Greece. Polish filmmaker Michał Marczak won the Audience Award for his debut feature All These Sleepless Nights, a Polish/UK coproduction.
Films on Art International Competition 10,000 EUR prize was won by A Magical Substance Flows into Me directed by Jumana Manna (Palestine). A Jury Special Mention went to Melissa Dullius and Gustavo Jahn for their film Muito romântico (Germany, Brazil).
Kwassa Kwassa directed by Tuan Andrew Nguyen and With All Our Cameras directed by Miguel López Beraza won ex-aequo the European Short Film Competition. Emi Buchwald’s Education won the Polish Short Films Competition.
