The Communist Security Office creates a work camp for Germans, Silesians and Poles in the place where the Auschwitz-Birkenau camp was located. Under the excuse of punishing the traitors of the Polish nation, the Security Office undertakes ethnic cleansing. Franek starts working at the camp in order to save Anna, a Pole with whom he is in love. He doesn’t know that one of the imprisoned is Erwin, a German friend, who has also been in love with Anna for years. Franek joins the Communists, deluding himself that he will manage to overcome the system.
The cast includes Julian Świeżewski, Jakub Gierszał, Zofia Wichłacz, Danuta Stenka, Wojciech Zieliński, Paweł Tomaszewski and Tomasz Sapryk.
"This intimate drama focuses on the psychology of a love triangle. It derives its strength from the complex, ambiguous urges of the main characters and through the ethic choices they face in a world where telling right from wrong is almost impossible", said Maciej Sobieszcański.
The film was produced by Zbigniew Domagalski through Studio Filmowe Kalejdoskop in coproduction with Wytwórnia Filmów Dokumentalnych i Fabularnych, EBH Polska and Wajda Studio with a budget of 1 m EUR, including 706,748 EUR / 3 m PLN of financing from the Polish Film Institute.
Shooting took place in 2015.
The film is based on a SCRIPT PRO winning script penned by Małgorzata Sobieszczańska and it was awarded in the First Look section of the International Film Festival in Locarno.
Kino Świat will release the film domestically on 6 October 2017.
