Corpus Christi had its international premiere in the Venice Days section of this year's Venice Film Festival, where it won the prestigious Europa Cinemas Label award.
New Europe Film Sales, based in Warsaw, announced a set of fresh deals after the film took in 3.4 m PLN / 790,000 EUR, making it the second best opening of a domestic film in Poland in 2019. The film is distributed locally by Polish powerhouse Kino Swiat.
Corpus Christi is based on a Script Pro winning project written by Mateusz Pacewicz. The film was produced by Aurum Film in coproduction with Canal+, WFS Walter Film Studio, the Podkarpackie Regional Film Fund and Les Contes Modernes. It has been selected as Poland’s Oscar submission for best foreign film.
Corpus Christi stars Bartosz Bielenia as a 20-year-old who experiences a spiritual transformation in a youth detention centre. Though his crime denies him the opportunity to officially learn to serve as clergy, he pursues his dream by dressing as a priest and ministering a small-town parish.
