The picture from director Janusz Morgenstern deals with the distorted morality of the Communist system.
The plot of The Lesser Evil plays out during 1981 and 1982, when a political thaw enabled artists to create more freely. The main character Kamil uses forgotten or lost texts by other authors to build his own reputation as an author, but a visit to Gdansk after the riots and birth of the Solidarity movement makes him question his Communist-shaped moral ideals.
The movie was shots in Warsaw and Gdansk between February and June 2008. Post production stage which is scheduled to be completed on December 21.
The movie was produced by the director's Film Studio Perspektywa (www.studioperspektywa.pl) in co-operation with The Documentary and Feature Films Studio (WFDiF, www.wfdif.com.pl) and co-producer/distributor, Vision Film SKA (www.vision.pl). The film budget is PLN 6 milion (€1.6 milion) with 50% of the funding from the Polish Film Institute and PLN 2 milion from Vision Film.
