PRODUCTION: Warsaw uprising drama Dance of Death in production

    Dance of Death. Scenes from the Warsaw Uprising from Polish director Leszek Wosiewicz, devoted to one of the most defining moments in Polish history, has finished the first phase of filming in Warsaw.

    The director's long research on the Warsaw Uprising resulted in the creation of a fictional script about a young poet and a beautiful woman who meet in the chaos of the city falling under battle. Wosiewicz is known for exploring the drama of an individual during the time of war. His earlier film Kornblumenblau is internationally recognized as a significant picture about the Holocaust.

    The female lead is played by popular Polish actress Magdalena Cielecka, who is joined by Rafał Fudalej as the young poet and Eryk Lubos, winner of the Zbyszek Cybulski Award 2009, given to promising Polish young actors.

    Dance of Death.Scenes for the Warsaw Uprising has completed 23 shooting days in Warsaw. Additional outdoor scenes are planned for Spring 2010. The movie is produced by the director and his company Odysey Films.

    The production will use special effects produced by Lightcraft (www.lightcraft.pl) a company which is currently working on another Polish war-drama The Secret of Westerplatte by Paweł Choclhew. The budget of the film is 2,850,000 PLN (€683,000). The production is co-financed by the Polish Film Institute (www.pisf.pl) with 1.425 million PLN as one of the most significant Polish projects of the upcoming year.

    The premiere is planned for October 2010, for the 66th anniversary of the end of Warsaw Uprising.
