The awards ceremony and closing party for the 35th edition of the festival was moved to a 1300 seat tent on the beach as the event had outgrown its usual home at the 500 seat Gdynia Musical Theatre. The six day event which showcases the Polish annual feature film production attracts most of the top players in the Polish film industry to the Baltic seaside resort.
As last year the overall level of the competition was very high with nearly all the 20 films in the main competition looking ready to head for domestic theatrical distribution.
With more than 50 feature films produced annually in Poland selectors were able to pick top titles for the competition. The Independent Cinema competition showcased another 18 Polish films demonstrating the depth of talent in today's generation of Polish filmmakers.
From the main competition Mother Teresa of Cats is already bound for KVIFF's (www.kviff.com) main competition and grand prix winner Little Rose is screening in the main competition at Moscow IFF. The majority of films in the programme were supported by the Polish Film Institute (www.pisf.pl)
The Christening which won the runner-up Sliver Lion for best film as well as splitting the best actor award ex aequo for between its two young stars Tomasz Schuchardt and Wojciech Zielinski who turned in powerful performance looks bound for a string on appearances on the international festival circuit.
