Essential Killing, Venice Dominate Polish Film Awards

    Essential Killing directed by Jerzy Skolimowski and Venice by Jan Jakub Kolski each won four awards at the 13th Polish Film Awards:The Eagles during the celebratory gala in Warsaw on 7 March 2011.

    The Polish Film Academy gave best film and best director to Essential Killing, as well as a best music award to Paweł Mykietyn and best editing to Reka Lemenhenyi and Maciej Pawliński. Essential Killing is a Polish co-production with success and critical praise in 2010 including the Special Jury Award at the 2010 IFF in Venice. This is the second Polish Film Award for Jerzy Skolimowski, who won for Four Nights With Anna in 2009.

    Venice earned the four awards: Artur Reinhart was awarded for best cinematography, Joanna Macha for set design, Małgorzata Zacharska for costumes, and Jacek Hamela for sound.

    Three Polish Film Awards went to All That I Love directed by Jacek Boruch: best script for Jacek Borcuch, "Discovery Of The Year" for Mateusz Kościukiewicz with his lead performance and the Audience Award for best film.
    Best actress was won by Urszula Grabowskafor her lead in Joanna, a drama directed by Feliks Falk. Best actor was given to Robert Więckiewicz for his performance in Little Rose. Supporting actress was won by Stanisława Celińska in Joanna and supporting actor by Adam Woronowicz in The Christening.

    The Best European Film Award went to Roman Polański and his film The Ghost Writer. The Lifetime Achievement award was given to Polish director, screenwriter and producer Tadeusz Chmielewski.

    The nominees for the Polish Film Awards are chosen by the members of the Polish Film Academy (www.pnf.pl) headed by Agnieszka Holland.
