According to Poland's agreement with the EU and the new bill enacted by the Polish Seym on 13 May 2011, by the end of June 2012 stations TVP (TVP1,TVP2, www.tvp.pl, regional television programs), Polsat (www.polsat.pl), TVN (www.tvn.pl), TVN4 and TV Puls (www.pulstv.pl) will stop broadcasting via analogue transmitters. The new bill addresses several issues that had arisen during the long process of digitalization in Poland.

The bill implements a special information campaign about the change in broadcasting. Both public and private broadcasters will be obliged to inform their subscribers about the conditions of the change. When buying a new TV set, the client will have to sign a notice if the set is not suitable for the new technology.

Digital broadcasting will enable a greater number of channels and improve the quality of sound and image. Poland plans to have 7 channels on one multiplex and 8 channels on the second and third multiplex. Digital broadcasting will also enable the development of several new services on the Polish market, including pay-per-view and e-commerce, both still unfamiliar to the regular subscriber.
