The participants of the meeting were Juliusz Braun, the recently appointed President of TVP; Jan Dworak, the President of The National Broadcasting Chamber, Maciej Strzembosz the Polish Audiovisual Producers Chamber of Commerce (KIPA) and Jacek Bromski, the President of the Polish Filmmakers Association (www.sfp.org.pl).
Juliusz Braun had presented his plan to innovate film production involving TVP (www.tvp.pl). "I would like the autumn program to clearly show why public television is an institution different from the commercial stations. All the money gathered from TV and radio fees should be assigned to specific goals," Braun said during the meeting. These goals include making new content for children (including animation) as well as feature and documentary film production. The President of TVP pointed out that the public station wants to be an active film producer and is already supporting Polish film production by assigning a part of the collectives for the Polish Film Institute (www.pisf.pl). Braun announced that soon the channel TVP History will be replaced with a new channel TVP Documentary. The new channel will be a special space for Polish documentaries in public television.
The members of the meeting also discussed the urgent issue of getting funds for public media, as the income from telephone and radio fee has been dropping for the last couple of years. "The bill needs to be changed, or at least the government needs to show political will to act on that matter," Jan Dworak, the President of the National Broadcasting Chamber (KRRiT,www.krrit.gov.pl), said during the meeting. According to Dworak the priority projects that should receive support from TVP are feature films for children, that should be a regular staple in Polish cinemas. He also mentioned that the KRRiT and TVP will be more engaged in supporting the increase in documentary production in Poland.
