Ladzek Dawid’s My Name is Ki (see FNE production profile 1 June 2011) will screen in the Venice Days section of the festival. The film won the Best Actress award for its lead actress Roma Gasiorowska at its premier in Gdynia earlier this year.
It has been a strong year for Polish films at international festivals this year with Polish films screening in the Berlin lineup and at many other international festivals in 2011.
Polanski’s Carnage is an adaptation of the play God of Carnage about two sets of parents that attack each other after their children quarrel in a public park. The film is coproduced by SPI Poland (www.spi.pl).
The Czechs weigh in with the animated film Alois Nebel directed by Tomas Lunak and produced by the Prague based Negativ (www.negativ.cz ) The film is a Czech, Slovak, German coproduction screening out of competition. The film is based on the famous Czech comic novel and is coproduced by Pallas Film (Germany), Tobogang (Czech) (www.tobogang.com) with Match Factory handling international sales.
