While admissions stayed static across Europe and box office grew by just 0.7%, five CEE territories bucked the trend according to the new European Audiovisual Observatory (www.obs.coe.int) report.

Estonian box office grew 29.9% to 10.1 million euros, admissions were up 15.9% to 2.5 million, and domestic films took 7% of box office, up from 2% in 2010. Bulgarian box office grew 13.6% to 18.7 million euros, admissions rose 18.7% to 4.7 million, and domestic films took 14.2% of the total box office, up from 8.8% in 2010.

Lithuanian box office was up 9.2% to 10.7 million euros, admissions rose 13.2% to 3 million, and domestic films took a 10.5% share, up from 3.6% in 2010. Romanian box office rose 11.2% to 29.4 million euros, and admission grew 11.2% to 7.2 million, while the domestic share fell to just 1.4%. Polish films claimed 31.3% of national box office, compared to 14.4% in 2010, while admission grew just 3.3% to 38.7 million.

Slovenia registered only slight gains in box office and admissions. Slovakia had a slight decline in both, but domestic films took a greater share of the box office, 10.1%. Hungary and the Czech Republic both had substantial declines.
