FNE at Red Square Screenings 2012: Central European filmmakers rediscover Moscow

By

MOSCOW:  The Red Square Screenings (15-19 October 2012) brought many central European producers to Moscow for the first time as the event teams up with CentEast Moscow (www.centeast.eu).

Croatian producer Zvonimir Munivrana of Zagreb based Corvus Film (www.corvusfilm.hr) who presented Children of the Fall directed by Goran Rukavina was making his first visit to Moscow.  He told FNE: “This is the first time I have presented this film project at any foreign event.  I didn’t really have big expectations of selling the film here, I came more for networking and making distribution contacts and I have to say it’s been very productive.”

Children of the Fall is already in post production and set for release in Croatia in February 2013.  It’s the story of a man whose wife has disappeared on an expedition to Bolivia some years ago and who cannot accept her death.  It stars one of Croatia’s most famous actors, Leon Lucev, which should make it a big local box office draw.

The Japanese Dog directed by Tudor Christian Jurgiu and produced by Romania’s Libra Film Productions (www.librafilm.net) was also presented for the in Moscow.  The project has benefited from a script by ScripTeast (www.scripteast.pl) prize winner Ioan Antociand is now in the phase of production.

Libra film’s Bogdan Craciun who was in Moscow to present the film at the CentEast Works-in-Progress said the film was slated for release in Romania in 2013 and that he was already seeing significant festival interest.  The Japanese Dog has been pre-sold to HBO Romania and received development funding from MEDIA.  Cracium said he was in Moscow looking for a sales agent for the film.
