To Mikro Psari by Yannis Economides To Mikro Psari by Yannis Economides

BERLIN: The Golden Bear for Best Film went to the producer of Bai Ri Yan Huo/ Black Coal, Thin Ice directed by Diao Yinan while the popular and star studded Grand Budapest Hotel directed by Wes Anderson picked up the Grand Jury Prize and a Silver Bear. Richard Linklater picked up the Silver Bear for Best Director as well as a number of other awards for his critically successful Boyhood.

With few films from the Central and Eastern European region screening in the official selection unsurprisingly films from the region did not fare well in terms of prizes with the exception being Zamatoví teroristi/Velvet Terrorists directed by Pavol Pekarčík, Ivan Ostrochovský, Peter Kerekes which won the Tagesspielgel Readers’ Jury Award although the film may prove more popular with audiences than many more awarded films. The film, which screened in the Forum, is a Czech, Slovak and Croatian coproduction produced by Peter Kerekes s.r.o. and coproduced by Czech Television, RTVS, Hypermarket Film and Nukleus-film.

The film was supported by Slovak Audiovisual Fund, Czech Cinematography Fund and Croatian Audiovisual Center and Deckert Distribution are handling international sales.

The Greek, German and Cypriot coproduction To mikro psari/ Stratos, a tough and gritty film about a emotionally frozen hitman operating in modern day Athens directed by Cyprus born Yannis Economides, which screened in the main competition, is another film that did not garner any prizes from the juries but is likely to gather sales and audience success. The film is produced by Faliro House Productions, Argonauts Productions S.A, Yannis Economides Films Ltd (Cyprus) in co-production with GFC S.A., Film Advisory Board of Cyprus with The Match Factory handling international sales.
