The Hungarian Holocaust drama, Son of Saul directed by László Nemes was awarded the Grand Prix. The international critics FIPRESCI award also went to the Hungarian film in the main competition. The film also received 4.05 stars out of 5 the highest rating of any film in the FNE FIPRESCI Critics Cannes ratings. (Click HERE to see the ratings)
Central European film scored again with the Un Certain Regard Jury Prize going to Jury Prize The High Sun, a Serbian, Croatian and Slovenian coproduction directed by Dalibor Matanić that also won critical kudos.
On the industry side the festival was dominated by debates on the European Commission’s controversial proposals for a Digital Single Market that was hotly debated during the European Forum and will continue to be debated at other European Forums around Europe for the rest of the year.
