The film is a rural thriller involving a young man who wants to sell the land he inherited from his grandfather. The main characters are played by Dragoş Bucur, Vlad Ivanov and Gheorghe Visu. Andrei Butică (Child's Pose, Parada Film) is the DoP.
Shooting took place in the summer of 2015. The film is a French/Bulgarian/Romanian coproduction from Ellie Meirovitz of EZ Films, Marcela Ursu of 42 Km Film and Stefan Komandarev of Argo Film.
The films was made with the participation of: Canal +, l’Aide aux Cinemas du Monde – Centre National du Cinema et de l’Image Animee, Ministere des Affaires Etrangeres et du Development International – Institut Francais, HBO Romania and Eurimages.
La Fondation Gan pour le Cinema, the Romanian National Film Center (CNC), the Bulgarian National Film Center, Doha Film Institute and Groupama Asigurari SA supported the film.
Dogs was selected for the Angers Workshops, Torino Film Lab / Script & Pitch, Les Arcs and L’Atelier du Cinefondation in Cannes. It received the ARTE Award at Cinelink. The film was released in Romania by Transilvania Film in September 2016.
Mirică studied scriptwriting at Westminster University in London and returned to Romania in 2008. He directed the awarded Bora Bora (MediaPro Pictures) and he also wrote and co-directed the TV series Shadows / Umbre for HBO Romania.
