Bloc 62 is a supernatural drama set in Yugoslavia in 1962, where a 12-year-old girl is suspected of being possessed by a demon and causing a series of unexplained suicides. The lead investigator and a Catholic priest involved in the investigation must face their own secrets connected with WWII, intertwining these two especially dark periods in the past: the height of the Cold War and WWII. The film is being marketed as an East European story.
Vascarac’s previous credits include the documentary Papaya Make Some Noise!, which was awarded at the Barcelona IFF in 2014, as well as the short Insomniac, which screened in the Cannes Directors Fortnight in 2002.
The project has been developed at the EKRAN+ workshop of the Andrzej Wajda School. The film is budgeted at 1 m EUR and has received support from the Croatian Audiovisual Center. The producers are speaking with Slovenia’s Staragara and Poland’s No Sugar Films about coproducing. The producers are seeking other coproduction partners, sales agents and financing partners.
The director told FNE that he shot two test scenes while at EKRAN, and has a cast and DoP lined up, depending on the shooting schedule. The production has applied to the upcoming round of funding from the Croatian Audiovisual Center, and hopes to be ready for shooting in 2019.
