Brighton 4 is a prime example, a coproduction between Georgia, Monaco, Russia, Bulgaria and the USA. The dramedy directed by Levan Koguashvili is produced by Georgia’s Kino Iberica, with Monaco’s KMN, Russia’s Moskvich, Bulgaria’s Art Fest and Broken Cage from the USA. Producer Olena Yershova introduced the film, which is looking for help with post-production along with sales agents and TV pre-sales. The film tells the story of a Georgian father who travels to Brighton Beach in Brooklyn, New York, to help his son out of a gambling debt. The director uses authentic non-pro actors in the cast of the film, which looks at the underbelly of life in the immigrant community in Brighton Beach. The film has primarily Georgian and Russian dialogue, with some English.
The budget of just under 1.1 m EUR needs gap financing of 200,000 EUR. The producers originally had lined up a Greek coproducer, but were unable to come up with the minimum required percentage of funding. Brighton 4 received a production grant of 190,000 EUR in January 2016 from the Georgian National Film Center and 100,000 EUR from the Bulgarian National Film Center. The film was partially shot at Nu Boyana Film Studios.
The producers would like to complete the film by the end of January 2019.
