The operator Baltic Multiplex Ventures, which owns the Cinamon multiplex, invested over €4.3 million into the 4,000 square metre and eight-screen film centre in Riga. The inauguration of next multiplex in the Riga Plaza mall is set for spring of 2009 .
"We made a decision to build the first 3D cinema halls in the new Cinamon cinema multiplexes in Tallinn (Estonia) andVilnius (Lithuania)," Cinamon general manager Arpad Abonyi announced in a press release. Tallinn Cinamon, with seven state-of-the-art cinema halls, will open its doors in autumn of 2009. Cinamon operates or is establishing a total of 39 cinema halls in the Baltic states.
"3D movies and cinemas are gaining popularity across the world, bringing an entirely new experience of watching films with the extra high-quality three-dimensional imagery and creating a feeling in the audience as if they are inside the films themselves," Abonyi added. He expects 6-10 3D blockbusters next year, with increasing numbers in future years.
Baltic Multiplex Ventures (BMV) is also the first to challenge the Finnish Finnkino Group, the only exhibitor owning multiplexes in the Baltic countries with two sites in the Lithuanian capital Vilnius, one in the Estonia capital Tallinn, and one in the Latvian capital Riga.
Today Cinamon owns two cinemas in Lithuania. The five-screen, 1000-seat Cinamon multiplex was founded in Kaunas 2005. In 2006 a six screen multiplex opened in 2006 in the city of Klaipeda. During its first year of operation in the Lithuanian market, the Cinamon multiplexes attracted over one million spectators. The company holds 34% of Lithuanian film market.
