The director Lucio Pellegrini puts his characters in unusual circumstances as a way of showing specific Italian characteristics. Pellegrini said that The Perfect Life gave him an opportunity to examine two middle-class men as typical examples of their generation.
The films tells the story of three people: the successful surgeon Mario Tirelli, his wife Ginevra and his friend Luca Manzi. Many years ago Luca left Rome and moved to Kenya, where he now works in a hospital. He is surprised when he sees his old friend Mario, who has always craved a wealthy lifestyle, come to Africa. Mario says that he has decided to start a new life. The situation becomes more complicated when his wife Ginevra appears in Africa with the news of a scandal involving Mario. The relationship between Luca, Mario and Ginevra turns into an elaborate game of bluff.
Pellegrini was born in Asti, Italy. From 1992 until 1998 he worked in TV. In 1999 Pellegrini made his feature debut with the comedy E allora mambo! (Let's Mambo!). He followed it with the features Tandem (2000), Ora o mai più' (Now or Never, 2006), Figli delle stelle (2010) and the documentary La vita è breve ma la giornata è lunghissima (Life is Short but the Day is Long, 2004). That film was shown in the 62nd Venice Film Festival (www.labiennale.org) in the section Digital and received the Pasinetti prize.
La vita facile was shot in 2010 in Northern Kenya and in Rome. Ot was released on 4 March 2011 on 300 prints through Medusa (www.medusa.it) and produced by Domenico Procacci (Fandango, www.fandango.it) in collaboration with Medusa Film (www.medusa.it), Sky Cinema (sky.it), and the Apulia Film Commission (www.apuliafilmcommission.it).
