PRODUCTION: So I Say Set for Fall Shoot

BUCHAREST: Bogdan Dumitrescu Dreyer (A Cold Place In The Sun and Thalassa, Thalassa) will begin filming So I Say withGérard Depardieu and Harvey Keitel on 12 September 2011, the producer Giuliano Doman told FNE.

The six week shoot will take place in the Romanian city of Sighişoara, with interiors in Belgium. Keitel and Depardieu will shoot four weeks.

So I Say /Condamnat la viaţăis an English language feature based on the Romanian novella The Death of Ipu written by Titus Popovici. The script written by Anuşavan Salamanian is set in a village during WWII where a German soldier is found dead and the villagers propose that the village madman give himself up in exchange for a hero's burial.

Gérard Depardieu will play the madman, Ipu, while Harvey Keitel plays the village priest and Laura Morante his wife. Hubert Damen is cast as the doctor. The cast also includes the Romanian actors Bogdan Iancu, Alexandru Bindea, Gabriel Spahiu, Adina Cartianu, Mihai Constantin and Gheorghe Visu.

The film is produced by Giuliano Doman and the Romanian company Family Film (www.familyfilm.ro). Daniel Zuta is co-producing together with the German company Daniel Zuta Filmproduktion (www.zutafilm.de) . The budget is 2,800,000 euro, Doman told FNE. The film was also supported by the National Centre for Cinema (www.cncinema.abt.ro) with a grant of 416,000 euro, and by the local agencies United Media Services, The Media Partnership, Starcom MediaVest Group, BV McCann Erickson, Mediaedgecia, Mindshare Media and Mediatique. ARTE Germany (www.arte.tv) gave it 200,000 euro, and Rai Uno Italy (www.rai.it) 100,000 euro. Eurimages (www.coe.int/t/dg4/eurimages) is supporting it with 400,000 euro. TVR is also supporting it with 48,000 euro.

The production team consists of DOP Richard van Oosterhaut, art director Anette Reuther, costume designer Nathalie Leborgne, and sound engineer Eick Hoemann. Post-production will take place in Belgium with editor Philippe Ravoet. Joris van den Hauwe is composing the music.

The film will be distributed by Transilvania Film (www.transilvaniafilm.ro) in Romania and by Farbfilm-Veleih (www.farbfilm-verleih.de) in Germany. The Romanian premiere is set for autumn 2012.
