FNE at TIFF: Romanian Days- Everybody in Our Family

{mosimage}CLUJ-NAPOCA: Everybody in Our Family, Radu Jude's follow-up to the feature The Happiest Girl in the World/Cea mai fericită fată din lume and the mid-length Film for Friends/Film pentru prieteni, is a contemporary black comedy about the deterioration of the relationship between a father and his ex-wife, ex-mother in law, small daughter and ex-wife's boyfriend. Jude describes it as "a mixture of Steven Seagal and Chekhov."

Marius, a 35-year-old man, has been dreaming of the short vacation he is about to spend with his daughter, Sofia. Recently separated from his wife Otilia, his allowed visitation and holiday time with his daughter is limited. The ex-spouses' break-up was anything but friendly. From Marius's point of view, his relationship with Otilia was ruined by Aurel, her current lover, while Otilia thinks that Marius has not been a good father and husband.

After producing Jude's feature film debut, Ada Solomon and HiFilm Production (www.hifilm.ro ) are again coproducing with the Dutch company Circe Films (www.circe.nl ), along with the Romania's Abis Studio (www.abisstudio.ro ).

The budget was 700,000 euro, and the shooting took place in June-July 2011. Corina Sabău and Jude wrote the script, with Andrei Butică as the DOP. The cast includes: Şerban Pavlu, Mihaela Sîrbu, Gabriel Spahiu, Sofia Nicolaescu, Tamara Buciuceanu-Botez, Stela Popescu, and Alexandru Arşinel.

Everybody in Our Family/Toată lumea din familia noastră received a production grant of EUR 238,057 (1,006,982 RON) from the Romanian National Centre for Cinema (www.cncinema.abt.ro ) in 2010, and a grant from the Dutch Film Fund (www.filmfund.nl ), and was also supported by Cityplex (www.cityplex.ro ), Teleclub, and HBO Romania (www.hbo.ro ). The film also received a grant of EUR 110,000 from Eurimages (http://www.coe.int/t/dg4/eurimages/default_en.asp ).

The film had its world premiere in the Forum section of the Berlin Film Festival (www.berlinale.de ) on 13 February 2012, and opened in Romania on 6 April. Films Boutique (www.filmsboutique.com ) is handling the international sales.
