Realitatea TV to Cut Staff

    BUCHAREST: Realitatea TV (www.realitatea.net) announced it will cut half of its personnel, following the appointment of a new General Manager, Gabrial Bugnar, who took over the position on 3 September 2012.

    relitateaThe news comes soon after a similar announcemnt of major cuts in staff at Romania’s public TV. Realitatea TV (www.realitatea.net) declared insolvency in 2011. The incoming General Manager hopes to put it back on track with drastic cost-cutting measures.

    From 630 employees approximately 300 will stay, Bugnar told the Romanian press agency Mediafax (www.mediafax.ro). He didn't say how long this restructuring process will take.       

    Realitatea TV split into two separate channels due to differences between the ex-manager and the owner in 2011. Realitatea TV continued its broadcast format, and the news channel television, RTV was rebranded as Romania TV as of 1 December 2011.
