The film is released on webkino.ro at a 5 USD fee. Domestic is a bitter-sweet comedy about people loving the animals they finally eat, and animals loving people unconditionally. Sitaru wrote the script partially based on his previous short film Cage. It stars actors from his previous films, including Adrian Titieni, Clara Vodă, Ioana Flora, Sergiu Costache, and Gigi Ifrim. The DoP is Adrian Silişteanu.
The film was launched by 4Proof Film in 11 towns after a wide-ranging marketing campaign involving video interviews with local personalities about their own pets, public discussions with animal specialists, and contests for the best pet stories.
Domestic was produced by 4Proof Film in coproduction with the German company unafilm. It received funding from the National Centre for Cinema, Medienboard Berlin-Brandenburg GmbH, Eurimages, TVR, and HBO Romania.
Webkino.ro, the first online exclusive cinema for the films made by young Romanian filmmakers, created by Cristian Mungiu, is also offering in films in full HD and with English subtitles, including The Death of Mr Lăzărescu, Police, Adjective, Morgen and Tales from the Golden Age.
