The Bulgarian partner for Caranfil’s uncommon musical “based on depression, natural calamities and third age problems” Jelfilm was awarded with 173,328 EUR. The exclusive representative of Hungarian Filmlab for Bulgaria, Romania, Baltic and Caucasian countries, Jelfilm distributed Mungiu’s Golden Palm winner 4 Months, 3 Weeks and 2 Days and served as executive producer to BulFilm - Andrei Altaparmakov’s Rat Poison, directed by Kosta Burov.
“I am proud that my company will coproduce a film by one of Romania’s most important film directors. Working on a coproduction with Mungiu means a lot to me,” producer and Jelfilm owner Jelio Jelev told FNE. The Bulgarian support will be added to the 223,981 EUR already allocated to Mobra Films by Romania’s CNC earlier in 2013.
The Bulgarian partner on Christian Chouchkov Brothers will receive 178 952 EUR from the Bulgarian NFC. This financing follows the 174,712 EUR Romanian funding allocated to Libra Film Production in 2011 for the political drama about policy and corruption. After its successful collaboration with Germany’s Ostlicht Filmproduktion on Tilt in 2010 Christian will be Chouchkov Brothers’ second coproduction.
Radu Jude’s third feature film Aferim, 19th century drama about Roma slavery will be coproduced with Bulgaria’s Rossitsa Valkanova, owner of Klass Film. The film is produced by Ada Solomon through HiFilm Productions and has already received a 183,484 EUR grant in Romania.
