The Unsaved to outnumber Child’s Pose at Gopo nominations

    BUCHAREST: Three feature films have received more nominations for Romania's national film fest than Călin Peter Netzer’s Child's Pose, which won attention and prizes abroad over the last year.

    Igor Cobileanski’s debut The Unsaved will screen alongside Adrian Sitaru’s Domestic and Marian Crişan’s Rocker. The curtain rises on the Gopo gala on 24 March.

    The Unsaved (Saga Film) won 13 nominations while Domestic (4 Proof Film and unafilm) and Rocker (Mandragora, Slot Machine and Departure Films) earned 11 each. Child’s Pose (Parada Film) won 10 nominations while The Japanese Dog (Hai-Hui Entertainment) by Tudor Cristian Jurgiu scored eight. When Evening Falls on Bucharest or Metabolism (42km Film, Les Films du Worso) by Corneliu Porumboiu took seven nominations.

    Child’s Pose, When Evening Falls on Bucharest or Metabolism, The Japanese Dog, The Unsaved and Rocker are competing for best film while their directors are up against each other for best director honors.

    In the best documentary category the nominations are: The Tănase Affair (Libra Film) by Ionuţ Teianu, The Year of the Dragon (HBO) by Iulian Ghervas and Adina Popescu, City Tour (UNATC) by Andrei Nicolae Teodorescu, The Bucharest Experiment (TWFilms) by Tom Wilson, and The Explorer (Fundaţia Arte Vizuale) by Titus Muntean and Xantus Gabor.

    The nominations were made by a jury of five film professionals and six critics, and approximately 400 professionals are now expected to vote. Some 65 features, documentaries and short films applied for the competition. From 41 non-Romanian films distributed in local cinemas in 2013 critics nominated for the best European film: Amour, La vie d'Adèle: Chapitres 1 &2, Jagten, Hannah Arendt and Kapringen.

    On 24 March Child’s Pose will receive the award for domestic film with the highest score at the box office in 2013: 276,755 EUR (1,249,457 RON).

    Everybody in Our Family, Aurora, When I Want to Whistle I Whistle, Police, Adjective, and The Rest Is Silence won the best film kudo over the last five years. The eithth edition of the Gopo awards is organised by Romanian Film Promotion and Transilvania Film with support from Babel Communications and the National Centre for Cinema.
