The film is a Romanian-German coproduction between Manekino Film and DocDays Production.
Iacob is also the DoP and shares the script credits with Alex Molico. Despre starea de bine/The Wellness Process (working title) is set in one of the oldest spa towns in Europe, Băile Herculane. Once a popular place, now in ruins, Băile Herculane is today a low cost paradise for cheap masseurs full of good spirit.
Irina Malcea and Iacob are executive producers from Manekino Film, and Christian Popp is producing through Doc Days. Corina Gliga is production manager. The budget is approximately 150,000 EUR, Iacob told FNE, of which 70,000 EUR from the Robert Bosch Stiftung Prize and 10,000 EUR from HBO Romania are already in place.
“HBO Romania supported the development and it will also help us with production money beginning this summer, thus we will cover approximately 80% of our budget,” Iacob told FNE.
The project received the main award for best script at the HBO National Script Contest organized at the 12th Transilvania International Film Festival in June 2013 and the Docs Barcelona Award at the East European Forum, Prague 2014. It was also presented at EDN Docs in Thessaloniki Pitch Forum in March 2013 and at Ex-Oriente Workshop – IDF development program, Rijeka, Jihlava, Prague 2013/2014. The project will participate at DocBarcelona at the end of May 2014.
Shooting is planned to cover 90 days mostly in 2014 between June and October. Initially the film will have a 52 minute version with the possibility of a 75 or 90 minute version, depending on the final budget. Negotiations with sales agents are underway. The premiere is set for mid-2015.
