Gulea again adapts a literary work, the novel I'm an Old Communist Hag/Sunt o babă comunistă by Dan Lungu, one of the most translated Romanian books of the last decade. Emilia (Luminiţa Gheorghiu), a modest woman with a nostalgia for the communist era, does her best to welcome her daughter who is visiting from Canada. The book was a bestseller in Romania, praised for its ease in catching the "residual communism" of contemporary life.
"The film is about a generation that was put aside and who tries to understand what happened and why it happened ," Gulea said.
The film was shot on location in the summer of 2012 with MediaPro Pictures producing.
The cast includes Marian Râlea (Best Intentions), Ana Ularu (Periferic) and Valeria Seciu (Roxanne). The project received a production grant of approximately 490,000 EUR (1.6m RON) from the National Centre for Cinema. The film was released in domestic cinemas by MediaPro Distribution on 23 August 2013, and it was selected for the competitive Romanian Days section at Transilvania IFF.
