The project participated in Work in Progress ay Karlovy Vary IFF (KVIFF).
The film is a coming-of-age story focusing on Cristina, a 30 years old woman who will finally start living on her own since her parents are moving. “While in Western societies the separation from parents takes place at a younger age, when children leave for college and the parents’ influence in their lives decreases, in our case, this process is rather sluggish and not so uncompromising. (…) The story is not a classical narrative; it focuses on ordinary incidents, everyday dramas, there are no life-changing events,” Ana Lungu said in the Director’s Statement. She also wrote the script.
The director is using professional actors (Elena Popa and Emilian Oprea) only for the main characters; the rest of the cast are non-professional actors. The fact that many situations are improvised gives a documentary style which Lungu experimented with in the medium length film The Belly of the Whale/Burta balenei, directed jointly with Ana Szel, which was selected in the Filmmakers of the Present section of Locarno IFF in 2010.
The DoP Silviu Stavilă (Niki and Flo) is shooting with an Arri Alexa digital camera. Dana Bunescu (4 Months, 3 Weeks and 2 Days, The Autobiography of Nicolae Ceauşescu) is editing. Anca Puiu and Ana Lungu are producing. The film is a 100% independent production with no grants so far. The budget is approximately 500,000EUR, Lungu told FNE. The project is looking for post-production support and funding.
Beside the 24 shooting days already completed, there are still a few shooting days left and shooting will hopefully wrap in August 2014. The premiere is not yet known.
