BUCHAREST: Cinema Studio is the first Romanian cinema which has suspended its work due to the new law prohibiting public activities in buildings with earthquake risk. Cinema Studio is also the home of the Romanian Filmmakers Union and a member of Europa Cinemas.

The building, located in the centre of Bucharest and whose ground floor and first floor are occupied by Cinema Studio and UCIN offices, will display the red dot indicating that it is a high earthquake risk building. Agreements with two film festivals which had to take place through the end of 2015 were cancelled.

In a press release issued on 25 November 2015 UCIN states that the main administrator of the cinema is actually the Romanian Film Archives and says that it will do all it takes to resume work as soon as possible. UCIN is also urging the Ministry of Culture, the Ministry of National Education and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to support the consolidation work with national and European funding.

Cinema Studio is fitted with a Barco 2K digital screening device which is working in parallel with the 35mm screening device, and 5.1 Dolby Surround sound system. The screen was replaced and the hall and lobby underwent a complete renovation two years ago.

Four main cinemas in Bucharest - Studio, Cinema Patria, Scala and Cinema Pro - are to close or change location according to a law approved on 17 November 2015 after a fire that broke in the Colectiv club in Bucharest on 30 October 2015 killed 60 young people and injured more than 150. The tragedy led to public protests against corruption and the resignation of the Government.
