Octav is a drama exploring universal themes such as time, nostalgia and love in its purest form through the friendship of an 80-year-old man and a 10-year-old girl. Serge Ioan Celebidachi and James Olivier wrote the script.
The cast includes Victor Rebengiuc, Andi Vasluianu, Alessia Tofan, Lia Bugnar, Ioan Andrei Ionescu, Mihai Dinvale and Maria Obretin. Blasco Giurato, who previously shot Cinema Paradiso by Giuseppe Tornatore and Dr. Zhivago by David Lean, said in a statement that Octav is his testament on 35mm. Original music will be composed by the Romanian-born French composer Vladimir Cosma (The Tall Blond Man with One Black Shoe, Diva).
Octav is produced by Adela Vrînceanu Celebidachi through Astra Entertainment in coproduction with Oblique Media and CelebFilms UK. The Romanian National Film Center is supporting. The budget is 1.4 m EUR.
Shooting takes place at Câmpulung (160 km from Bucharest) and will wrap on 27 April 2016. The premiere is set for 2017.
Serge Ioan Celebidachi is the son of the great conductor Sergiu Celibidache and he previously directed the documentary The Garden of Celibidache / Le jardin de Celibidache (1997).
