BUCHAREST: Nae Caranfil’s comedy 6.9 on the Richter Scale had 12,606 admissions in its opening weekend, a very good result for a country where attendance to domestic comedies took off in 2016. The film is a Romanian/Bulgarian/Hungarian coproduction dealing with popular fears such as earthquakes and ageing.

The film, which was released by Voodoo Films on 58 screens on 20 January 2017, opened the domestic films releases on a high note, but failed to reach the two domestic successes of 2016, Two Lottery Tickets / Două lozuri by Paul Negoescu (produced by Actoriedefilm.ro), which had 27,182 admissions in the opening weekend, and Cristina Iacob's #selfie69 (Zazu Film) with 25,121 admissions.

6.9 on the Richter Scale / 6,9 pe scara Richter was produced by Cristian Mungiu through Mobra Films in coproduction with Jelio Jelev producing through Bulgaria's Jelfilm and Hungary's Cinemafilm. Paris-based Premium Films is handling the sales.
