CLUJ-NAPOCA: Eight feature debut films are among the twelve films selected for the official competition of the 16th Transilvania International Film Festival (TIFF). The festival, which takes place 2 - 11 June 2017, will welcome Alain Delon and Sir Derek Jacobi as its special guests.

“Like every year, I go for singular, young and courageous voices, who do not play it safe and bet the whole farm on one card,” says Mihai Chirilov, the Artistic Director of the festival.

The festival is also organising competitions in the Romanian Days section and the Shadow (horror short films) section.

Alain Delon will receive the Lifetime Achievement Award. Sir Derek Jacobi, who stars in the first English film by the Romanian-born France-based director Radu Mihaileanu The History of Love, will also attend. The film is a French/Romanian coproduction through Libra Film and was shot in Montréal, New York and Romania.

The FIPRESCI Award will go this year to one of the ten films from the new section Alt.Rom.Com, a selection of independent romantic comedies.

The festival will open with the comedy King of the Belgians by Peter Brosens and Jessica Woodworth, which will screen in Cluj’s Unirii Square.

The Transilvania International Film Festival is organised by the Association for Romanian Film Promotion and the Association for the Transilvania International Film Festival.
