The film written by Crețulescu himself tells the story of a man who is visited by his wife’s lover three weeks after his wife’s death. The lover asks for help and closure. Charleston is the bitter-sweet story of an absurd threesome made by two men and the woman they’ve lost, an unconventional love story with a retro touch, a pop cocktail mixed with black humor, emotion, an eclectic soundtrack and even a dance intermezzo.
The main characters are played by Şerban Pavlu (Everybody in Our Family / Toată lumea din familia noastră, HiFilm Production) and Radu Iacoban. The cast includes Ana Ciontea, Victor Rebengiuc, Adrian Titieni, Gavril Pătru, Andreea Vasile, Dorian Boguță, Alina Berzunțeanu and Ana Ularu. Barbu Bălășoiu (Sieranevada, Mandragora) is the DoP.
The film was produced by ICON Production and Les Films du Tambou in coproduction with Mille et Une Films and Wag Prod, with support from the Romanian Film Center, The Group, Publicis Groupe, Region Bretagne, Rennes Metropole, in association with Kinosseur, Wearebasca, Digital Cube, and with the participation of HBO Europe. The producers are: Velvet Moraru, Marie Legrand, Rani Massalha and Andrei Crețulescu.
The Paris-based sales agent Versatile is handling the sales. Kinosseur will release the film in Romania on 8 June 2018 and also in Moldavia.
A former film critic, Andrei Crețulescu had previously made several short films including Ramona, which was awarded the Canal+ Award in 2015 Cannes Critics Week.
