The film was sold in the USA and Canada to Magnolia, in China to Jetsen Huashi and in India to Info2tainment. It was also sold in: Middle East and North Africa (Moving turtle), Southern Cone (Zeta Films), Russia (Russian report), Scandinavia (Njuta), the UK (Curzon), France (Diaphana), Benelux (Cherry Pickers), Germany and Austria (Alamode), former Yugoslavia (MCF Megacom), South Korea (Line Tree), the Baltics (Kino Pavaris), the Czech Republic (Aerofilms), Greece (Spentzos), Hungary (Mozinet), Israel (Lev cinemas), Italy (Valmyn), Mexico (Interior XIII), Poland (Gutek film), Portugal (Leopardo Filmes), Spain (Surstsey), Switzerland (Bord Cadre) and Taiwan (Light years images).

The film was also sold to Encore Inflight Limited.

In Romania The Whistlers will be released by 42 KM FILM and Ro Image 2000 on 13 September 2019.

The Whistlers tells a story about a policeman called Cristi, who reaches the La Gomera island in Spain in order to learn El Silbo, a whistled language used by the inhabitants over a distance of up to five kilometres.

The cast includes Vlad Ivanov, Catrinel Marlon, Rodica Lazăr and Sabin Țambrea.

The film is a coproduction between 42 KM FILM (Romania), Les Films du Worso (France), Komplizen Film (Germany) and Arte Grand Accord. It was supported by the Romanian Film Centre and Eurimages.

The film was acquired by France’s MK2 Films during the shooting.
