Romanian documentaries set for theatrical release through December 2019 are:

Emigrant Blues: a Road Movie in 2 ½ Chapters / Emigrant Blues: un road movie în 2 ½ capitole by Mihai Mincan and Claudiu Mitcu (distributed by deFilm).

The Diary of the –Escu Family  / Jurnalul familiei –Escu, directed by Șerban Georgescu and produced by Kolectiv Film / Studioul Video Art (distributed by Kolectiv Film),

collective / colectiv by Alexander Nanau (distributed by  Bad Unicorn and Voodoo Films) 

Timebox by Nora Agapi (distributed by Manifest Film).

Anca Damian’s French language animated film Marona’s Fantastic Tale will be released in Romania by Aparte Film on 4 October 2019.

The first Romanian premiere of the autumn is the country’s bid for the Oscars in the best international feature film category. Corneliu Porumboiu’s The Whistler / La Gomera will be released by Ro Image 2000 and 42 KM FILM on 13 September 2019.

The rest of the feature films scheduled to be released this year range from historical drama Queen Marie of Romania, directed by Alexis Cahill and Alexis Sweet Cahill, and produced by Abis Studio) and Communist drama (Arrest / Arest by Andrei Cohn) to contemporary relationship drama (Monsters. / Monștri. by Marius Olteanu) or psychological drama (Zavera by Andrei Gruzsniczki).

In November Strada Film Distribution will release the fourth feature film of Cătălin Mitulescu, Heidi, produced by Strada Film.

There is just one first time director among the directors of these ten films – Marius Olteanu.

Eleven films including two Romanian minority coproductions were theatrically released so far in 2019. Among these 11 films three are long documentaries and three are debuts.

A total of 23 domestic films were released in Romania in 2018, of which 10 were debuts and six long documentaries. The 19 domestic films released in 2017 included six debut features and three long documentaries.
