The producers describe the film as "a modern David and Goliath story." Written by Larysa Kondracki and Eilis Kirwan, The Whistleblower tells the true story of Kathryn Bolkovac, an American police officer working as a peacekeeper in post-war Bosnia, who exposed a sex trade scandal involving employees of the United Nations.
The Whistleblower is an independent Canadian-German co-production, in partnership with Barry Films (www.barryfilms.com). MediaPro Pictures (www.mediapropictures.com) is providing with services.
Voltage Pictures (www.voltagepictures.com) is handling international sales.
The main character is played by Academy-winner Rachel Weisz. Romanian actors Vlad Ivanov, Florin Busuioc, Coca Bloos, Alexandru Potocean and Ion Sapdaru complete the cast.
Shooting will end in December, after filming at MediaPro Studios and on location in Bucharest.
