The film follows a Romanian family on holiday in the Democratic Republic of Germany of 1968, confronted with the quick decision whether to keep going to the West through the "Prague Spring," or return to chilly Romania.
The German producers are Razor Films (www.razor-film.de) and producer Verona Meier. Saga Film (www.sagafilm.ro) and producer Alex Teodorescu are the Romanian co-producers, while the Czech partners are Negativ Film (www.negativ.cz) and producer Pavel Stnrad.
The project won the Balkan Script Development Fund prize of 10,000 euro at Thessaloniki IFF (www.filmfestival.gr) in November 2009, and participated at EAVE 2009 European Producers Workshop in Cardiff, Wales. The co-producers will apply for a grant from the Romanian National Centre for Cinema (www.cncinema.abt.ro) at its next session, in early 2010.
The estimated budget is 2.2 million euro. Shooting is planned for 2011. Born in Romania in 1979, Lăzărescu now lives in Germany. Her short film Bucharest-Berlin, was nominated for the Berlin Today Award at the Berlin IFF in 2005.
