Romanian admissions soar

    Romanian admissions are up 59% in the first half of 2010, compared with 2009, with a total of 3,239,129 tickets, up from 2,034,291 in 2009. Profits for the same period rose 72%, to €13,392,476 (56,650,174 RON).

    There were 5.27 million tickets sold in 2009, totalling €7,764,986 (32,845,891 RON).

    This upsurge is due to digital screens and 3D films in 3D including 2009 chart topper Avatar and Alice In Wonderland Alice In Wonderland currently in first place for 2010 with 222,314 tickets sold.

    The most successful Romanian film in 2010 is Florin Şerban's award-wining If I Want To Whistle, I Whistle which is in 19th position with 52,644 tickets sold. 2009 was a record-breaking year for Romania, with admissions growing 43% compared to 2008, and box office up by 60%, the first sign of recovery after 18 years of decline.
