Shooting takes place in the Republic of Moldova and will wrap 20 November 2010. The DOP is Oleg Mutu (4 Months, 3 Weeks and 2 Days), and the art director is Adrian Suruceanu. The young actors Igor Babiac and Sergiu Voloc play two boys fighting over the same girl, played by Ela Ionescu.
Porumboiu began writing the script at the Cannes Cinéfondation Residence in 2005. He set the story in his hometown of Vaslui, as in his acclaimed features 12:08 East of Bucharest and Police, Adjective. Cobileanski kept the structure of the story but superimposed the image of a small provincial town in Moldova. The film is a bittersweet drama about a 25-year-old small-time drug dealer who tries to cope with his father's suicide, his sad love story and the desire to fly a glider.
The project received a MEDIA development grant and as well as a production grant of €300,000 from the Romanian National Centre for Cinema (www.cncinema.abt.ro) The Romanian premiere is expected in 2011.
Born in 1974, Igor Cobileanski directed the shorts When the Lights Are Off/Când se stinge lumina, Saşa, Grişa and Ion/Saşa, Grişa şi Ion, Boredom and Inspiration/Plictis şi inspiraţie. He also made a TV feature, Tache, in 2007.
