The Made in Slovakia selection will show domestic premieres including Varga, a documentary portrait of a legend of the Czechoslovak music scene Marián Varga, directed by Soňa Maletz (produced by Punkchart Films and FAMU), and Vít Klusák’s Czech/Slovak/British coproduction The White World According to Daliborek (produced by Hypermartket Film, the Czech Television, Peter Kerekes Film and BRITDOC foundation).
IFF Bratislava‘s Award for Artistic Excellence in World Cinema will be given to actor and director Jean-Marc Barr, who will present his latest film, the post-apocalyptic sci-fi Grain. Barr will star in the Slovak/Czech/Russian coproduction The Cellar. The film, which is expected to be released in May 2018, is produced by Slovakia’s Furia Film in coproduction with 8heads production from the Czech Republic and Russia’s Gate LCC, and directed by award-winning Russian filmmaker Igor Voloshin.
Canadian independent director Denis Côté will lead a masterclass and the festival will screen a selection of his feature films, including his receint Locarno premiered A Skin so Soft.
