Filmpark production released Dubček on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of Prague Spring and Czechoslovakia’s occupation. „Alexander Dubček was the leader of many important social changes during the 60s. Suddenly on 21 August 1968 the armies of five countries of the Warsaw Pact invaded Czechoslovakia and buried the process of democratisation for good“, producers Zuzana Balkóová and Peter Neveďal said in the statement.
Based on the biographical story Dubček written by Ľuboš Jurík, the script was penned by Viliam Klimáček, who is known as a director, scriptwriter and actor mostly for the GunaGU Theater. For Laco Halama this is the first feature since 1997.
The film is a Slovak/Czech coproduction between Filmpark production and RTVS and the Czech Television. It was supported by the Slovak Audiovisual Fund and the Ministry of Culture of the Slovak Republic.
The film stars Slovak actor Adrian Jastraban, who is mostly known for his television roles. The cast includes Táňa Radeva, Vladimír Hrabal, Jiří Zapletal and Radoslav Šopík.
Dubček will be theatrically released by Forum Film in April 2018. Forum Film is also handling the sales.
