Production: Slovak slasher starts shoot

By Jana Kadlecova

Low-budget Slovak horror film Death Factory: First Blood (Fabrika smrti: mlada krv) began filming April 7.

Directed by Gejza Dezorz and produced by Robert Slovak, the slasher movie is the story of a psychopathic murderer who massacres a group of young tourists in the Tatra Mountains.

"The budget is still in the development," producer Robert Slovak told FNE. "The film is supported by the private sources, investors, partners and sponsors (Avon, PlayStation, Sony, Puma, Vilmos etc), that consider it as a p.r. activity. We will present them through product placement or other communication tools." Slovak has established a new production company Furca Film (www.furcafilm.sk). The co-producer is advertising agency fluid zone s.r.o. (www.fluidzone.sk).

The production decided to seek private co-producers rather than apply for a grant from the Ministry of Culture.

The first shooting days, taking place in the mountains, were technically difficult. "Other parts, technically simplier but time consuming, will take place in interiors in Bratislava," said Slovak.

Death Factory: First Blood should be ready for its Slovak premiere by the end of this year.

The promising cast includes shooting star Tana Pauhofova as well as popular Slovak musicians.

Since the film is primarily aimed at teenagers, Slovak (who also works in advertising) plans a guerrilla and viral marketing campaign.
